It’s a mixture of the pain and the fact that they have no say whether or not they want to/can handle the pain. It’s a selfish act.

The truth is in my family piercing babies ears (girls only) is like a culture, i didn’t really know why or when it started. I’m the only one in my family that didn’t get early ears piercing since my ears is very small, the doctor won’t do it.
I disregard the proportions, the measures, the tempo of the ordinary world. I refuse to live in the ordinary world as ordinary women. To enter ordinary relationships. I want ecstasy. I am a neurotic — in the sense that I live in my world. I will not adjust myself to the world. I am adjusted to myself.
